In my Home Fashion Design class we were assigned to create a master bedroom set.The dispersed square prints seen on the runways inspired me for this project. I wanted to design for a very modern atmosphere with simple details.

I had to combine my knowledge of NedGraphics and Photoshop and Kaledo to create a collection of prints and wovens for a company 7 years from now. I have always been infatuated with what Free People creates so I chose this company to design my prints for. I wanted a soft, flowy, playing-in-the-woods theme. I pulled the dark browns from the trees and earth and the blues from the sky that peeks through the leaves.

I was inspired by the exhibit at the MOMA that was an instillation called the Sum of Days. It was a spiral of white sheer fabric that viewers could walk through. It had an ethereal feel when you entered the piece. I wanted to create a yoga collection based on the feelings I got from the exhibit. The prints have the influence of the light that I saw through the sheer fabric and the waves in the fabric when it would blow in the wind. The clothing is loose and flowy like the hanging fabric.

I created a print for scarves inspired by micro biology and romanesco cauliflowers. I thought it would be interesting to takes something that is quite disgusting and create it into something beautiful. The first board has images that I pulled motifs from and girls wearing the scarfs. the second board has the silk fabric that would be printed on and the outline of the designs. The third has my hand painted print with coordinating prints done digitally and the fourth board has 2 colorways of the print.

I have always, ever since I can remember, been infatuated with Free People. I created these concept boards to apply for their summer internship program which got me an interview in Philly. The first one has an ethnic influence with the henna designs and drop crotch pants. The second one is angelic with a nostalgic feel.

For this project I had to chose an artist and magazine I wanted to style for. I chose Bjork because of her outlandish style and V magazine because of the eccentric people they choose to have on their covers. I was to choose a location and 4 different looks for each backdrop. I was so inspired by the glass blowing artist Chihuly who had exhibits in NYC and Nashville's Cheekwood botanical gardens. They seemed so out of this world I had to use his exhibitions for my photo shoot. For the clothing, I pulled from Viktor and Rolf and Mcqueen's Spring 2010 runway shows.
