Future Ideas

I had to combine my knowledge of NedGraphics and Photoshop and Kaledo to create a collection of prints and wovens for a company 7 years from now. I have always been infatuated with what Free People creates so I chose this company to design my prints for. I wanted a soft, flowy, playing-in-the-woods theme. I pulled the dark browns from the trees and earth and the blues from the sky that peeks through the leaves.

Technologic

I was inspired for this project by abandoned Yugoslavian memorials from the 1970's that I found through research that looked like they could have been made in a different world. They were so futuristic and out of this world. I also pulled my color scheme from the movie Tron. I wanted to design for a high end brand, so I chose Bordelle, which uses leather and straps to create edgy, sexy lingerie. With the prints I used gradation to make it look like the beaming blue lights like in Tron with black accents.

Distressed

I created 4 woven plaids and 1 print for house wares focusing on the older artist for the target market. I wanted softer colors so that the customer felt comfortable when at home. I texture mapped my plaids into the bedroom on board two.

The subculture

I created plaids for a hippy guy that attends music festivals on the regular and is in touch with his feminine side. I used NedGraphics to create the wovens and simulated them to give them a warm fuzzy feeling for the fall.

Sum of Days

I was inspired by the exhibit at the MOMA that was an instillation called the Sum of Days. It was a spiral of white sheer fabric that viewers could walk through. It had an ethereal feel when you entered the piece. I wanted to create a yoga collection based on the feelings I got from the exhibit. The prints have the influence of the light that I saw through the sheer fabric and the waves in the fabric when it would blow in the wind. The clothing is loose and flowy like the hanging fabric.

Summer Prints

This past summer I brought my paints home with me and created a few hand painted prints since I didnt have any of my computer programs with me. For each print I have the color chips next to it and an image to help get a feel for what the print would be placed on.

Knock-off Print

I was given a swatch of fabric and had to make a knock-off of the fabric so that it looked similar at first glance, however not similar enough so that I would get sued for plagiarism. Instead of flowers I threw in balloons, unicorns, and trees.

Floral Color Match

I was given a swatch of a fabric and had to color match and hand paint a copy of the swatch. Then I was to create 2 color ways with colors that had the same saturation and value as the original.

Weird Science

I created a print for scarves inspired by micro biology and romanesco cauliflowers. I thought it would be interesting to takes something that is quite disgusting and create it into something beautiful. The first board has images that I pulled motifs from and girls wearing the scarfs. the second board has the silk fabric that would be printed on and the outline of the designs. The third has my hand painted print with coordinating prints done digitally and the fourth board has 2 colorways of the print.

Victoria's Secret

I created a mood board for Victoria's Secret. I wanted to give them a more structual, sexy look with a retro influence with the high waist.

Free People

I have always, ever since I can remember, been infatuated with Free People. I created these concept boards to apply for their summer internship program which got me an interview in Philly. The first one has an ethnic influence with the henna designs and drop crotch pants. The second one is angelic with a nostalgic feel.

Color Bloc

I was inspired by street stylers that were wearing the trend of neutrals and a pop of red. This is another one of my fashion design projects

Splattered Earth Stones

This is a Men's Wear project created in Kaledo. I was inspired by Spring 2011 runways which showed garments splattered with paint. I had a print of my own that had this look and recolored it to 3 different color ways. Then i created a placement print, farisle, and a cable knit to associate with it. For the placement print I used a thinner knit throughout and then a tighter darker color knit for the paint splatter.

Victorian Lace

I have dappled in Fashion Design and here is one of my first projects, Victorian Lace. I have always been inspired by Marie Antoinette and as you can see that she had a big influence on this project.

Moody

There are 3 moods I had to portray for my house wares boards using images, fabric and color pallets. Going from left to right: Exotic, Romantic, and Elegant.

Celebrity Styling

For this project I had to chose an artist and magazine I wanted to style for. I chose Bjork because of her outlandish style and V magazine because of the eccentric people they choose to have on their covers. I was to choose a location and 4 different looks for each backdrop. I was so inspired by the glass blowing artist Chihuly who had exhibits in NYC and Nashville's Cheekwood botanical gardens. They seemed so out of this world I had to use his exhibitions for my photo shoot. For the clothing, I pulled from Viktor and Rolf and Mcqueen's Spring 2010 runway shows.

Entry Boards

My first entry boards into the Fabric Styling program.
